Muse of epic poetry. Daughter of Zeus, known as the Muse of Homer, inspirer of the Illiad and the Odyssey. She had two children, Orpheus and Lina whose father, depending on the legends, was either Apollo or the king of Thrace. She was the eldest and wisest of the Muses, as well as the most confident. She was also the inspiration of Dante in the Divine Comedy, who invokes her in the canto of Hell and the cantos of Purgatory.
